Property Price Increase Means Some Divorced Couples Remain Living Together

The growing price of property has resulted in 1 in 6 newly divorced couples having to continue living in the same house – a figure that has increased since 2014 when it was 1 in 10.

Approximately 90% of people had to remain together for more than a month and 39% had to remain under the same roof for more than three months. However, with the option of renting or planning to purchase a new property, this solution need not be a permanent one.

A 2016 ONS report revealed property prices are now 7.6 times more than the average UK salary and that the cost for those in a position to buy a new property is likely to cost around £145,000 which firmly suggests that the new property purchase is a downsized one.
