Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Lawson-West Solicitors
How we deliver business as usual

For now, you can be assured that it is ‘Business as Usual’ at Lawson-West and here to help you with your legal needs.

We are driven by our commitment to help others. We are here. For you.

What does ‘Business as Usual’ look like?  We outline below our main service areas with an update on each department for the delivery of legal services as it currently stands.

Employment

Over the next few months, several businesses and employees will find themselves in changed circumstances.

For Employers – all businesses are assessing the potential economic impact of the virus and how to maintain staffing levels, stock levels, sales and cashflow during an uncertain period ahead. Supplier and manufacturing requirements may alter the context of your business contracts and you will need to re-assess your employment requirements going forward and liaise with employee groups and trade unions on a regular basis. Our commitment is to help all employers to manage their employment resources effectively, from advising on home-working, flexible contracts through to change of contracts and downsizing teams.

For Employees - some employees will be asked to adopt new ways of working, working from home, reduced hours or you may face redundancy or working from another location. You will want advice about changes to your contract and your employment rights.

We have learned that the employment tribunal courts are changing the way they operate, with more online tribunals and barristers working remotely and this is something that’s developing over the coming weeks.

At this worrying time, you can rely on Lawson-West to be here, operating on your behalf with our ‘Business as Usual’ attitude and advice you can trust to guide you through it.

Probate & Wills

We welcome you to get in touch by phone, email and website.

In the wake of Coronavirus many people are preparing or updating their Wills to be safe in the knowledge that they have made suitable arrangements for loved ones should the worst happen.

For people who are at home, self-isolating, and the over 70s, many of whom may have underlying health or mobility problems, we provide a helpful telephone service and enquiries are also answered by email. Unfortunately, we can no longer provide home visits at this time. For non-Coronavirus patients who are seriously ill, we can only visit your hospital or care home to take instructions within the strict access guidelines of the NHS Trust or private hospital/hospice. We hope you appreciate that we don’t want to inadvertently spread the virus by visiting you. We are putting in place alternative measures to replace home visits with virtual meetings.

We have learned that the Court of Protection is testing the use of Skype for some trials and we watch this development with interest.

We care about your family’s Will, LPA and probate needs and this is part of our ongoing commitment to you as your lawyers to be here for you when you need us most.

Family Law

Across the UK families are discussing the virus and how to cope with staying at home, elderly parents going into isolation, child welfare and school closures, supporting unwell members of the family, working from home and all that that involves. Practical preparations are being talked about and Coronavirus may become a nightmare that tests family relationships to a deeper level than before.

Our trained and friendly lawyers can help you manage volatile situations with sound advice and suggestions to help. We’re available by email or telephone. We are also putting in place alternative measures to replace visits with virtual meetings.

We have learned that the Family courts are changing the way they operate, with more online hearings and this is something that’s developing over the coming weeks.

Moving Home – Conveyancing

The Spring months normally have the most activity for house sales and purchases in the year, but we will probably see a slowing of activity as the COVID-impacted economic downturn sets in and people remain indoors. Our experienced team of conveyancers and solicitors can advise on any aspect of moving home or buying or selling property or land. We also provide a quality service for remortgages and transfers of equity and you can trust our team to continue to provide attention to detail and professional expertise for all your conveyancing needs.

We’re here to provide helpful advice.

For Businesses

Our business clients know that you can ring us at any time, and we will aim to help you.

We’re known for our great client service and that hasn’t changed.

Whether your company has commercial contract needs following the impact of the virus on your business or employment, dispute, landlord and tenant requirements, our lawyers are still here and can take your call and help with any legal matter you have.

Disputes can arise at any point, especially over a breach of contract, tenancy agreement and agreements to supply goods in specific quantities or deadlines. We have learned that the litigation courts are changing the way they operate, with more online hearings and barristers working remotely and this is something that’s developing over the coming weeks which we are watching closely. Our team is here to advise you in any dispute situation and we are actively advising clients now on the impact of COVID-19.
