He has been working in Employment Law since joining Lawson West Solicitors in 2023 and has gained a significant amount of experience in various different types of Employment Tribunal claims whilst training under the supervision of Vaishali Thakerar, Sejal Patel and Kate Lea.
João qualified as a Solicitor in 2025, and has since taken on a variety of cases with successful outcomes. He provides client-centred support and advice and takes a deep interest in understanding his client’s ideal outcomes.
João has experience in acting for both individuals and businesses, be it to litigate cases in the Employment Tribunal, provide advice or assisting employers with Employment Contracts and business-related policies.
Joao has particular interest and expertise in discrimination against employees ranging from disability discrimination to sex discrimination. He is particularly adept in advocacy at Employment Tribunal level and ensuring that client’s receive the best possible representation to reflect the merits of their cases.
Whilst experienced in Employment Tribunal matter through to final hearing with a number of successes under his belt, Joao also has the commercial wherewithal to consider the best interests of clients and has strength and conviction in negotiating the best possible settlements for his clients, going the extra mile to ensure the best possible outcomes.
One of Joao’s greatest strengths, however, is his empathy and understanding of his client’s needs and objectives. This ability is best represented from the considerable number of external client reviews that demonstrate the human side to representation at Lawson West.
João also does a significant amount of pro-bono work, and takes part in Lawson West’s legal advice clinics on a weekly basis, collaborates with the Leicestershire Citizens Advice, and works with local universities to provide training for students.
Outside of work, Joao is an avid fan of football. When not watching or playing, Joao enjoys spending time woodworking at home.
Client testimonial: “I instructed João on a no win, no fee basis for an employment issue back in 2025 (which has now resolved in April 2026). From the beginning, he was professional, supportive and very easy to deal with. He kept me regularly updated and always made sure I understood my options, explaining everything in a clear and straightforward way. That really helped take some of the stress out of the situation. What stood out most was how efficiently he handled my case, while still being approachable and reassuring throughout. With his help, we were able to negotiate a settlement rather than going through a tribunal. I’m very thankful for the support I received during such a vulnerable moment, for taking on my case and listening to my story. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend João to anyone dealing with an employment issue. Thank you once again!!!”
