My website is a marketing tool but what rights do I have to use the data collected?

If you wish to use your customers or clients data to market to them in the future then you need to comply with UK Data Protection Law and (if selling goods) other applicable legal requirements such as Distance Selling Regulations.

In addition, if you are using cookies then you will need to have a well published cookie policy with a requirement that your customer or client accepts the policy rather than a simple requirement that they don’t reject it.  Depending on the use that you are putting your website to, there is a host of legislation designed to protect customers, clients and consumers from unsolicited emails and you must ensure that your website complies with all of these.
