Child's Change of Name Deed

Child's Change of Name Deed

Many people decide to change their given birth name for various reasons. This maybe because it is difficult to pronounce, religious reasons, it doesn’t suit their personality or simply because they don’t like it.

A Change of Name Deed is a document that can be used to evidence the change of a person’s forename, surname, add or remove names or change the spelling of names.

If the Change of Name Deed is for a child, then then the consent of each adult who has parental responsibility for them is required. This is usually the child’s parents or legal guardian.

If the adults cannot agree to the Change of Name, then it usually has to be considered through the mediation service and ultimately through the court process. Depending upon which parent you are, you may be applying for a Specific Issue Order or a Prohibited Steps Order. At Lawson-West we would be able to guide you through that process.

How can we help?

At Lawson-West Solicitors we carry out Standard Change of Name Deeds (unenrolled), providing a smooth service throughout the process, with regular updates to keep you informed. We will draft the Change of Name Deed for you and also provide you with certified copies.

The Change of Name Deed can then be used to change the name on the Passport and other legal documents and should be used with the Birth Certificate for identification purposes as it acts as proof of the new name.
