We are sensitive to the needs of those affected by loss of capacity

Members of our Probate, Wills & Trusts team are trained to be “Dementia-Friendly”, plus we have a full member of The Association of Lifetime Lawyers’. We are known for our friendly and caring service.

We meet individuals and families every day to advise them on the legal considerations of long-term care and medical needs, for long-term planning for themselves following diagnosis, or family members and loved ones affected by health issues or lack of capacity.

We often visit clients in care homes and hospitals to ensure their needs and capacity are properly assessed.

As well as Teams meetings online, we also welcome visits to see us face to face in our offices to discuss your needs and those of your loved-ones.

Court of Protection

The Court of Protection was established to make decisions on behalf of people who have lost or never had mental capacity (known as the Protected Party). The Court of Protection can appoint people (Deputies) to manage financial affairs, create a Will and make other decisions such as whether they should receive specific medical treatment or whether certain property or assets should be sold.

Lawson West’s experienced Court of Protection team in Leicester and Market Harborough can help you navigate the Court, with particular specialism in:

  • Deputyship Applications (both Financial Affairs and Personal Welfare)
  • One-Off Orders
  • Gifting Applications
  • Trustee Appointments
  • Challenging Deputy Appointments
  • Challenging decisions made by an attorney
  • Professional Deputyship Appointment

Lawson West’s specialist team is also able to act as professional Deputies, meaning that where there is no-one appropriate to manage a loved-one’s affairs, we can assist.

Our Probate, Wills and Trusts Team helps to assist with creation of Powers of Attorney for people with mental capacity or to review LPAs already in place for those with diminished capacity.

With a heritage of practising law for over forty years, our skilled and highly-qualified solicitors are experts in supporting the vulnerable through the Court of Protection.
