An appointee is someone who is appointed by the Department of Work and Pensions

An appointee is someone who is appointed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to manage or receive benefits on behalf of another vulnerable or incapacitated person. An appointee is not the same as a Deputy or an Attorney, and is not permitted to manage other finances.

Appointeeships are appropriate for those who only receive benefits and have no other income or funds to manage. They are not suitable as a sole solution for people who receive income streams other than state benefits, have savings, or other pots of money or who are inheriting sums of money.

Learn more about appointeeship on the government website at https://www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-someone-claiming-benefits. If you think that the vulnerable person requires a Deputyship to manage their finances, please call the Court of Protection team on 0116 212 1000
