In a potential redundancy situation you must remember:

• That genuine redundancy is when an employer no longer requires a role/roles to be carried out, where there is a reduction in the number of staff needed to fill a role/roles or when a business is closing.
• Redundancy is not about the performance of an individual or any other failings of that individual (although this may be relevant in the selection criteria).
• TUPE is not redundancy. 
• Ensure that you plan thoroughly and schedule what actions you need to take and when.
• Remember collective consultation meetings (if applicable) and individual consultation meetings.
• Make sure that the pool of employees and the selection criteria is fair and reasonable.
• The selection criteria used should always discount any absences caused by disability or pregnancy.
• Any vacancies available should be offered to those at risk of redundancy.
• Always communicate with those employees who are staying and not effected by the redundancy.
