Research shows that many employees want fair and reasonable compensation if they were to be injured at work. However, many employees underestimate the injury compensation they would be awarded after such an accident. For example, 61% of those surveyed estimated the injury compensation for a fractured arm to be under £5,000 when the typical compensation award is £6,000. Similarly, 46% of those surveyed thought that compensation awarded for a breaking a leg in an accident at work would be under £5,000 but typical compensation awarded was £8,650.

Vicky Jones, Personal Injury Partner commented, “These figures show that employees generally have very modest expectations, often expecting to get less than the typical award for injuries sustained in an accident at work. This shows that there is no ‘compensation culture’.”

The research was conducted between 27 – 29 October 2008 by YouGov for HPW solicitors. The sample size was 1970 and the results have been weighted and are representative of all British adults.
