Lawson-West, Solicitors have launched a new initiative designed to cut down the use of plastic carrier bags among staff and promote their environmental commitment to clients. The purchase of 2,000 eco-friendly and ethical cotton carrier bags was inspired by Rita Raj, a conveyancer at the firm’s 67 Long Street Wigston office, and is attracting lots of interest across the company’s four offices.
Rita commented: “When we were considering additional services and benefits to clients and the community as a whole, I sought a way that would also benefit the environment. In light of recent coverage of the detrimental effects of plastic bags on the environment, I suggested we should offer our clients and employees the option of using an eco-friendly bag instead."
The bags, which are being distributed widely to clients and staff, complement other Lawson-West activities such as participation in Shred-It’s shredding and recycling programme which resulted in the firm saving 47 trees in 2007, and the use of an ISO 14001 (environmental management) accredited printing company.
