Lawson-West supports Leicester City Council’s new initiative to reduce slips, trips, falls and road traffic accidents caused by potholes and defects on roads and pavements.

Dedicated rapid response teams cover all areas of the city and aim to investigate complaints about defects the same day. Where possible, problems will be fixed the same day while emergency repair work will be arranged for more complex defects.

At the moment the teams are each getting about 10 calls a day, but expect this to rise. The city spokesman for transport said, “This scheme means people can contact us directly about any defects on roads or pavements, and means we will be able to respond quickly and establish what work needs to be done.” The initiative should reduce accidents such as cyclists being knocked off by cycling over potholes and pedestrians tripping over raised paving slabs.
