Failure to obey Traffic Officers’ directions can result in points on your driving licence and you can also be fined.
A man appeared at Loughborough magistrates court and was found guilty of failing to proceed or keep in a line of traffic as directed by Traffic Officers. He had 3 penalty points added to his licence, was fined £30 and had to pay costs of £125.
He was driving along the southbound carriageway of the M1 between junction 25 and 24a on the Leicestershire/ Derbyshire border. Traffic Officers were carrying out a rolling roadblock to remove a large piece of debris from the carriageway near junction 24a. A rolling roadblock slows traffic down so that road workers or emergency services can work safely. Signs had been set up to warn drivers of the hazard ahead and the traffic officers’ vehicle was displaying a sign saying “Don’t Pass.” The man ignored the signs and passed the traffic officers’ vehicle using the inside lane.
Not complying with Traffic Officers' directions or signs could lead to a fine of up to £1,000, driving licence endorsement or even disqualification.
