The Ministry of Justice has issued a warning about unregulated claims management companies that may be making unsolicited telephone calls to members of the public promoting personal injury or accident compensation claim services. The three companies, named by the Ministry of Justice, are:-
• National Compensation Consumer Line
• Compensation Consumer Survey Line
• Personal Injury Hotline
All claims management companies, whether based in England or abroad, must be registered with the Claims Management Regulation Monitoring and Compliance unit at the Ministry of Justice. If you are approached or receive a call from a company offering accident compensation claim services, ask for their registration number – a genuine claims management company will be happy to provide it. You can also check on-line at the Ministry of Justice’s website at www.claimsregulation.gov.uk.
A claims management company cannot deal with an accident or personal injury compensation claim as they are not legally qualified to do so and have to pass the claim onto a personal injury lawyer or solicitor. Solicitors cannot accept claims referred by an unregulated claims management company.
