Currently acting for over 45 clients as part of a 1500 person group litigation, Lawson-West, solicitors, are urging anyone who has suffered severe rashes, burns, sores or blisters to contact us. Some people have had to be treated in hospital and take time off work as a result of developing severe allergic reactions from certain leather sofas, previously available from Argos, Land of Leather and Walmsleys. Argos and Land of Leather have now stopped selling the affected sofas. The affected sofas, mainly in the Pia, Bari and Marco ranges, have been sourced from Linkwise in China.
The severe allergic reactions have been caused by the anti-mould agent used in sachets placed within the sofas. The anti-mould agent, di-methyl fumarate (DMF), escapes from the sachets as it turns from liquid to gas when heated and becomes absorbed in the leather sofa covering. When someone sits on the sofa, they then come into contact with the DMF, which causes skin reactions such as blistering, burns, sores and rashes.
If anyone suffers a rash, blisters, sores or burns after coming into contact with a sofa, please seek medical advice. A sofa that’s been placed in direct sunlight will become affected as the sunlight is sufficient heat to turn the DMF from liquid to gas. Anyone who has suffered severe allergies, blisters, sores and burning is entitled to compensation for their injuries.
