Lawson-West support the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) Ladder Exchange scheme. Falls and similar accidents from ladders result in 1,200 major injuries, some of them fatal, each year.
The Ladder Exchange is a simple idea: replace potentially dangerous ladders with safer, newer ones. New ladders with discounts of up to 50% will be available from HSS Hire, Ladderstore.com, SGB or Speedy Hire until December 2007. At the same time companies are being urged to educate staff to use the correct ladder for the job and use it safely to avoid accidents. HSE inspector Maureen Kingman said, “There is still a lot of poor-standard equipment out there. We will do everything it takes to educate people and get rid of poor quality ladders from workplaces.”
Lawson-West solicitors frequently see the injuries incurred by staff who have had an accident while using defective equipment. Ashley Hunt, Personal Injury Partner, comments, “We support this HSE initiative to promote the safe use of ladders in the workplace.”
