Lawson-West your legal partner for life
“Serious buyers and sellers should not hold back until January 2007 to put their house for sale.” states Jane Dodson, branch manager at Lawson-West
Estate Agents on Uppingham Road.

Jane comments:

“Our recent figures show that overall we sell almost twice as many houses in the winter as we have done at Easter, which is really surprising.”

Jane puts this down to a number of factors. Here are her top five reasons
why houses still sell well in the winter, and why now is a good time to get your house on the market if you’re thinking of moving:

1. It’s a time of year when people start thinking and planning for the year ahead.

2. With people taking holidays in December, they have more time to search for properties, especially to look on the internet, while being at home with their families. Not all faiths celebrate Christmas; therefore people may use the time to search for a new home.

3. Your house is at its best in anticipation for the yuletide - the heating on creating a warm and cosy feeling, a Christmas tree decorated with all its twinkling lights, and a wreath on the door, makes a home look even more inviting. It’s a great time to show off your house to prospective purchasers.

4. Some agents do not prioritise listings in December which means that your house would get more viewings, as there are fewer houses on the market.

5. Remember it’s always recommended to find a buyer for your house first, before you go looking for your next dream home. If you accept an offer on your house in December, it gives you a clear advantage over other buyers also looking in the New Year. This could make all the difference between you clinching the deal on your chosen property and missing out.

Jane comments:

“Correctly priced properties are selling well at the moment as well as
some that have been sticking. It’s a good time to get your house on the
market.”
