Although going into care residential care is a great upheaval, it can also be a great opportunity. It is a chance to meet new people and to have many of the worries of daily life taken off your shoulders and passed on to professionals, whose job it is to look after you.
But how do you choose the best care home for you or a loved one? It is a good idea to visit as many different care homes as you can before you decide, so you can compare the facilities and levels of care they provide.
Do the residents look happy? Are the staff friendly? Every home is inspected and you can see the latest inpsection reports on the internet: www.csci.org.uk
We can also provide a useful checklist of things to consider that you might not have thought about.
For example, can friends or relatives stay the night if they have travelled a long way to see you? Can you bring your pets? Your own furniture?
If you wish, we can also come with you to visit prospective homes. Although we cannot recommend particular homes to you, we do know the sorts of questions to ask and what to look out for!
Don't forget-just as with any other contract you sign, it is also vital that before you sign a care home contract you receive proper legal advice about the terms and conditions.
