Personal injury solicitors Lawson-West reinforced the fact that the UK accident compensation culture is a myth, backed by recent figures from Data monitor - the marketing analysts.
In the research Datamonitor identified that:
The total number of personal injury accident claims fell by 5% from 743,593 to 706,715 two years later.
However, the perception that the UK is spiralling into an accident compensation culture continues to have serious ramifications for the industry. Escalating fees and advances in medical science have pushed up the cost of accident claims by almost 10% to cost insurers £7.2 billion in 2004, Datamonitor said.
Ashley Hunt, Personal Injury Partner at Lawson-West solicitors commented:
“With the number of accident compensation claims clearly falling the public should question why insurance companies and the media are encouraging this idea of a compensation culture. It really is a myth. Two large accident compensation claims management firms, Claims Direct and the Accident Group have collapsed which may have led to a reduction in the number of accident claims brought by injured people.”
